The sample PDF illustrates the colouring book's structure and potential quirks.
We Start with a Story: To create your colouring book, our system first generates a short,
theme-related story packed with rich vocabulary. This story helps us find words for each letter. It also gives you ideas for talking
to your child about the colouring book. You will find this story on Sheet 2 (the parent guide). The left panel has the story. The right panel has example sentences for letters not found in the story.
Sheet 3 (colouring pages): Sheet 3 shows a typical colouring page layout: page 1 is on the right, and page 17 is on the left.
This arrangement is designed for easy at-home assembly. See Instructions below.
Letter Ordering (colouring pages): The letters and their associated vocabulary are ordered based on their appearance in the story that will be printed on Sheet 2 of the book. They are not ordered alphabetically.
This way, you can read the story with your child while looking at the images!
Sound & Image Association: Each colouring page focuses on a specific letter sound. Children will color an image related to a word that reinforces that sound.
While we prefer to choose words beginning with the sound, sometimes we cannot find them. In such cases, we choose words where the target sound is at the end of the word.
On rare occasions, a suitable word simply can't be found for a letter. In these cases, we will still include a colouring page for that letter, to keep the alphabet complete.
"Fallback" Words Happen: Sometimes, our system will use common words when theme-specific ones aren't available.
See How It Works for details.
English/Gibberish Creep: Sometimes, gibberish or English text might get past our checks and into an image (eg: Sheet 3, left panel).
This is something we're actively working on eradicating.
Spot the Oops!
Our AI is a creative beast, but sometimes it gets its wires crossed.
Expect the unexpected – maybe a dinosaur sprouts an extra leg, a knight is rocking shorts, or penguins end up in the Sahara.
These quirky errors can be hilarious teaching moments! Spot the mistake with your child, talk about why it's funny,
maybe colour over the errors. But remember, while silliness is encouraged, inappropriate content isn't.
Always review your creations before letting your child loose with the crayons!
Instructions
- 🎨 Generate the Colouring Book: Navigate to the Colouring Book Tool Page,
fill out the form, and click "Generate".
The generation process may take 30 minutes or longer. You can download the finished product from the confirmation page if you remain on the page, or from the "Tool Usage" section of your My Account page. - 🖨️ Print the Book: Print the entire colouring book.
- ✂️ Cut: Carefully cut the pages in half along the dotted line drawn down the middle of the sheets.
- 👀 Review and Remove Unwanted Pages: Carefully review all the pages and remove any pages you deem unsuitable for your child.
Please email heretohelp@linguwhee.com with the problematic pages and a description of the issue. Your feedback helps us improve the quality of the generated content. - 📚 Assemble the Book: Order your pages in whatever order you like. We have a suggestion below.
- 📎 Bind (optional): Use a heavy-duty stapler to staple the book. For easy page turning, staple in the corner. Alternatively, use a paper perforator and bind with rings/in a binder.
- 🎉 Present the Colouring Book: Share the colouring book with your child! Read and discuss the story, color the images, trace the letters, and practice the sounds.
Detailed cutting & assembly instructions - optional
The instructions below help you "cut & stack" to quickly get a colouring book where colouring pages appear in the same order as the
related words appear in the story (parent guide).
- ✂️ Prepare the Cover and Parent Guide: Remove the first two sheets (cover and parent guide). On the cover sheet: the left side of the page is the back cover, while the right side is the front cover. On the parent guide sheet: the left side of the page shows the story while the right side shows word examples that are not found in the story. Cut these sheets along the cutting guide lines.
- 📄 Cut the Colouring Pages:
- Divide into Smaller Batches (if needed): Depending on the capacity of your paper cutter, you may need to divide the main stack of printed colouring pages into smaller batches (e.g., 10 sheets at a time).
- Cut Each Batch: For each batch, carefully cut the pages in half along the dotted line in the middle.
- Create the Left and Right Stacks: After cutting each batch, you'll have two stacks of pages: a left stack and a right stack.
- If you cut all the pages in one batch: place the ENTIRE LEFT stack on top of the ENTIRE RIGHT stack. This will arrange the pages in the correct order.
- If you cut the pages in multiple batches: keep all the LEFT stacks separated from all the RIGHT stacks as you cut your batches. Place all the LEFT stacks on top of each other, in order. Then do the same for the RIGHT stacks. Then place the ENTIRE LEFT right on top of the ENTIRE RIGHT stack. This will arrange the pages in the correct order.
- In case of mix-ups: Use the small numbers printed in the bottom corner of each page to re-order them.
- 📚 Assemble the Book: Place the front cover on the front, next place the sheets with the parent story and examples, finally, place the back cover on the back.
How It Works & What to Expect
Word Choice Quirks: Sometimes, the word assigned to a letter might seem a bit unexpected. For example, if you create a dinosaur colouring book in Romanian, you might expect "brahiozaur" (brachiosaurus) for 'b', but instead get "bună" (hello). This can happen if the story doesn't mention brachiosaurs specifically, and opens with a greeting like "Bună copii!" ("Hello kids!"). The system will then use common words from the story when no other word is found. We're actively working on improving the word selection process to ensure more relevant and engaging vocabulary.
Concept Levels and Rich Vocabulary: We're passionate about rich vocabulary, even for the youngest learners! Your "Concept Level" choice dictates the range/depth of concepts in your book. It does not directly influence the vocabulary complexity. When we generate our story and pick our words, we strive to use rich vocabulary regardless of concept level. Please don't hesitate to use seemingly complex words – if your child is interested, they will ask questions (over and over!). This repeated exposure is incredibly valuable; as you discuss a topic and its vocabulary, both your child's understanding and their vocabulary will flourish. This approach is inspired by Montessori principles, encouraging accurate terminology early on, fostering a strong foundation for expression.
Missing Words: On rare occasions, a suitable word simply can't be found for a letter. In these cases, we will still include a colouring page for that letter. The letter will be printed, but a word and example sentence will not be included. This keeps the alphabet complete!
Language Tweaks: Although we work hard to ensure accurate spelling and terminology, sometimes English or anglicized terms might slip through (like "Brachiosaurus" instead of "brahiozaur" in a Romanian book). We are continuously improving language accuracy. Your patience is appreciated!
Good Things Take Time! Our system generates word-sound associations and corresponding images for every letter in your chosen alphabet. This process typically takes 30 minutes or more. In some cases, especially during periods of high demand, generation may take longer, potentially up to 5 hours. We appreciate your patience!
Where to Find Your Book: Once your colouring book is ready (and successful!), it will be available for download in the "Tool Usage" section of your My Account page.
You will only be charged if the process is successful.
A full history of your colouring book creations, including any failed attempts, is available on your My Account page.
Responsible Use
Respectful Use is Key: This tool is intended for positive and educational use. Please be mindful and avoid submitting themes that are overtly inappropriate, harmful, or offensive. Our system is designed to automatically detect and prevent the generation of content that violates these guidelines.
Understanding Context: We recognize that language can be complex, and sometimes themes might have unintended interpretations. To ensure the safety and appropriateness of the colouring books, our system may rephrase or augment your inputted theme.
Sensitive Topics: We are particularly cautious when dealing with potentially sensitive subjects. While topics like body safety and sexual education are incredibly important, this tool is not designed to provide accurate or comprehensive illustrations for such complex themes. In these instances, we will likely adjust the theme to focus on general well-being, positivity, and safe interactions in more general settings.
REVIEW FIRST! ALWAYS! We use a combination of tools and processes to create your custom colouring book, including generative AI technology. While we have implemented safeguards and checks to minimize inaccurate or inappropriate content, always review the final output before sharing the book with children.
