About the translation tool
Instructions and important information
Overview
Found the perfect learning resource online in PDF format but not in your language?
Our in-place document translation tool handles high-graphic PDFs (think vibrant learning materials & infographics).
We generate the translated content (preserving graphics and general text placement) in PDF and SVG formats, ready for customization!
Simply fill in the form on the Translate now page and press "Translate".
This tool is designed for documents containing short, visually integrated text elements.
It is not designed for longer, text-heavy documents.
Known Limitations
Our translation model is evolving... and while we're learning, we're allowing users to translate PDF files for free!
Although translation to/from most languages should produce an output, the quality of the translations will be
best for pairs between English, German, French, Italian, Portuguese, Hindi, Spanish, and Thai.
More languages coming soon!
You may notice odd phrasing, overlapping text, or illustrative, bubble, and decorated fonts misidentified as images in the output. We are actively working to fix this. In addition, automated moderation may affect or prevent the translation of certain content types.
Editing Options
Here are your options for editing the output:
- Open the PDF in Canva (free account required) or a PDF editor of your choice.
- Open the SVG in Inkscape or Lunacy (both free) or an SVG editor of your choice.
While Canva's intuitive editor is easy to use, importing PDFs might result in poorly rendered text and graphics due to Canva's conversion process. Uploading SVG files won't resolve this; Canva treats them as uneditable images. For best results, do your post-translation editing in an SVG editor.
